HOUSTON -- The 2014 NBA All-Star Game will be played in New Orleans. But the 2015 midseason classic is still up for grabs between the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks.

Madison Square Garden, home of the Knicks, is considered the mecca of basketball and last hosted the All-Star game in 1998.

The Nets, playing their first season in New York in the brand new Barclays Center, last hosted the game in 1982 in New Jersey.

NBA Commissioner David Stern, who will retire on Feb. 1, doesn't envy the decision faced by his replacement, Adam Silver.

"There are two applications in, one from Brooklyn and one from the Garden," Stern said. "And I really think that Commissioner Silver is going to have a great time with those applications, I really do.

"And I asked him to send me a postcard to tell me how they go."

Noah's powerful hair

One of the oddest hairstyles in the NBA belongs to Chicago Bulls center Yoakim Noah.

Noah, who holds American, French and Swedish citizenships, wears his hair with sort of a bundt look on top. And he said he's not about to change.

"I think that my hair is my power," Noah said. "I kind of have a long-hair-don't-care kind of vibe to me.

"That's just who I am. My pops had dreads. I'm kind of a hippie at heart."

Noah's dad, Yannick Noah, is a former professional tennis player.

Riding the wave

Asked if American Airlines Center in Dallas is a tough place to play, Dallas native Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat said: "It was. The crowd goes as the team goes.

"When we played there in the [2011] Finals, yeah, it was loud as hell."

Asked about the Mavs' 23-29 record and their playoff chances, Bosh said: "Sometimes you have to just ride the wave with the ups and downs of a franchise. They're at a position where they have to really just weather the storm."

Spoelstra on Lopez

Heat coach Erick Spoelstra praised Nets center Brook Lopez, who has overcome injuries to earn his first All-Star berth.

"He's improved gradually each year, and now that he's healthy, he's a dominant presence down low because of this size," Spoelstra said.

Jordan's 50th

The NBA's greatest player ever, Michael Jordan, turned 50 Sunday.

"He's inspired us to do great things," Lakers center Dwight Howard said, "and just hearing his voice sometimes on a commercial, just watching some of his games makes you want to get out there and try to do something extraordinary."

Houston star watch

Celebrities in Houston included Beyonce, Gabby Douglas, Spike Lee, Nick Cannon, Queen Latifah, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Kevin Hart, Drake, Jay Z, Usain Bolt, Nas and ex-Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens.
