No Chance of a Super Bowl at Cowboys Stadium in 2016 or 2017 - NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth (blog)

Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington doesn't stand a chance to host a Super Bowl until 2018 at the earliest. The North Texas Super Bowl Committee had hoped to be in the running in 2016 despite the bad weather that plagued Super Bowl XLV in 2011.

The National Football League announced Tuesday that NFL owners will vote next May between San Francisco and South Florida to host the 50th Super Bowl in 2016.

The San Francisco 49ers are building a new stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., while some NFL owners have said SunLife Stadium in Miami needs major upgrades before it should be considered for another Super Bowl.

"We understand the Dolphins and South Florida are looking at renovations and they do feel that is a large part of their bid," Commissioner Roger Goodell said.

South Florida has hosted the most Super Bowls, ten total, with the last one being in 2010

There was one Super Bowl in the San Francisco Bay Area, at Palo Alto, Calif., in 1985. "Nothing brings a region together like a Super Bowl," 49ers CEO Jed York said.

The loser of the 2016 race will compete against Houston for Super Bowl in 2017. Houston has played host to the NFL big event twice with the most recent in 2004.

If you're keeping track of the most recent Super Bowls:
