Giants cut Bradshaw, Canty as part of salary purge - Fort Worth Star Telegram

The New York Giants continued their roster purge after missing the playoffs, cutting leading rusher Ahmad Bradshaw and defensive tackle Chris Canty.

The salary cap-saving moves Wednesday came one day after New York let starting linebacker Michael Boley go after four seasons. The Giants also waived defensive tackle Martin Parker, who spent this past season on injured reserve with a back injury.

Bradshaw, Canty and Boley were veterans who contributed to the Giants' Super Bowl win over the Patriots a year ago, but they all had big contracts and battled injuries.

Bradshaw, who has had knee and ankle injuries, was to earn $4.25 million. He became expendable with the play of rookie David Wilson. Canty, a former Cowboy who had knee issues with the Giants after never missing a game with Dallas, was to earn $6.5 million next season. Boley, who had shoulder and hamstring injuries last season, was to make $4 million this season.

The biggest surprise might have been the release of Bradshaw, who led the team in rushing each of the past three seasons, gaining 1,015 in 2012.

Ryan to Saints?

Rob Ryan, fired last month as the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator, will interview for the same position with New Orleans, Saints coach Sean Payton said Wednesday.

Several media outlets earlier reported that the Saints had settled on Ryan, but Payton said that's not the case, at least not yet.

Speaking on ESPN radio, Payton said Ryan will be among "two to three candidates" to interview for the job and that a decision will be made in about a week. Romeo Crennel and Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham are thought to be the other candidates.

Driver exits

Green Bay Packers receiver Donald Driver made his retirement official Wednesday at a news conference/farewell party at the Lambeau Field atrium.

Driver, who spent his entire 14-season career with the Packers, celebrated his career with team officials and 1,500 fans. He had 743 career receptions for 10,137 yards, both Green Bay records, and had 61 touchdown catches, third on the team's all-time list.

Super Bowl: New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said the city's performance as host was nearly flawless despite the 34-minute power outage at the Superdome during the game and that the mishap won't affect the city's plans to bid on the 2018 Super Bowl.

Eagles: OT Demetress Bell, who was signed before last season to fill in for the injured Jason Peters but lost his job in training camp, was released. Philadelphia also signed DE/LB Chris McCoy from Calgary of the Canadian Football League.

Bengals: Former Raiders coach Hue Jackson, who was Cincinnati's defensive backs coach last season, will coach the team's running backs next season.

Raiders: About 10,000 seats will be under a tarp at O.co Coliseum for games next season, reducing capacity to about 53,250.
