The Dallas Cowboys have hired former Detroit head coach Rod Marinelli as defensive line coach.
The Cowboys reported the move on the team's website Friday. Marinelli was the defensive coordinator under Lovie Smith with the Chicago Bears but decided not to stay on the staff of Smith's replacement, Marc Trestman.
The move reunited Marinelli with new Dallas defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. The two were on the same staff in Tampa Bay.
The team also announced linebacker Anthony Spencer will play in his first Pro Bowl, replacing the injured Clay Matthews of Green Bay.
Fellow Cowboys Jason Witten and DeMarcus Ware also were picked for the NFL's all-star showcase that will be played in Honolulu on Jan. 27, a week before the Super Bowl.
Jets hire Eagles' Mornhinweg as OC: The New York Jets have hired Marty Mornhinweg as their offensive coordinator, replacing the fired Tony Sparano.
Mornhinweg spent the past 10 years as an assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles, including the past seven as the team's offensive coordinator.
He was previously the head coach of the Detroit Lions, and was also an assistant with San Francisco and Green Bay. Sparano was fired after one season as the Jets' offensive coordinator as New York finished 30th in overall offense.
Bears hire Tucker as defensive coordinator: The Chicago Bears hired Jacksonville's Mel Tucker as their defensive coordinator to replace Rod Marinelli on Friday.
Tucker spent the past four seasons as the Jaguars' defensive coordinator and was assistant head coach this season.
He interviewed to replace Mike Mularkey, who was fired after going 2-14 in his lone season as their head coach, but that job went to Seattle defensive coordinator Gus Bradley on Thursday.
The Jaguars last season also used Cover-2 defense, a staple in Chicago under the fired Lovie Smith.
Browns hire Ray Horton as DC: The Browns considered Ray Horton for their head coaching vacancy. They hired him to fill another one.
Horton, who spent the past two seasons as Arizona's defensive coordinator, was named to the same position with the Browns on Friday. The 52-year-old recently interviewed with Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner before the team chose Rob Chudzinski as its sixth coach since 1999. Horton replaces Dick Jauron, who was not retained on Chudzinski's staff.
