NFL Power Rankings Week 8 - SportsBlog.com (blog)

1. (1.) Atlanta Falcons (7-0)

It looks like the bye week was exactly what the Atlanta Falcons needed. They were as dominant on Sunday as they used to be at the start of the season and remain undefeated.

2. (2.) Houston Texans (6-1)

The Houston Texans are hosting the Buffalo Bills after the bye week as warm up for the Sunday Night showdown at the Chicago Bears in week 10.

3. (3.) Chicago Bears (6-1)

Chicago's offense remains fairly average, and the aerial attack intimidates no one, but the defense saved their bacon once again. Ultimately, CB Tim Jennings' interception return for a touchdown sealed the victory.

4. (4.) New York Giants (6-2)

They took an early 23-0 lead at the Dallas Cowboys only to squander it and still came out on top in the end. Sometimes you have to win ugly but winning is all that matters.

5. (5.) San Francisco 49ers (6-2)

The most impressive statistic of the game wasn't even QB Alex Smith's almost perfect game. San Francisco's defense held the Arizona Cardinals to 7 yards rushing. Three 49ers had at least one run longer than 7 yards.

6. (6.) Green Bay Packers (5-3)

It was apparent that the Green Bay Packers missed WR Greg Jennings and WR Jordy Nelson on Sunday but they have now won three games in a row and keep the pressure on the Chicago Bears.

7. (8.) New England Patriots (5-3)

The New England Patriots put on a show in London and gave the fans their money's worth. They scored 45 unanswered points to wipe out St. Louis' touchdown on the opening drive. New England's first five possessions of the game resulted in touchdowns.

8. (7.) Baltimore Ravens (5-2)

The Baltimore Ravens are coming off a bye week and face the Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders before they head to Pittsburgh for the Sunday Night clash in week 11.

9. (12.) Denver Broncos (4-3)

For once the Denver Broncos played from the first to the last minute and this is what you get: They outgained the New Orleans Saints 530 yards - 252 yards, outrushed them 225 yards - 51 yards and outpassed them 305 yards -201 yards.

10. (11.) Pittsburgh Steelers (4-3)

The Pittsburgh Steelers obviously did their homework on rookie QB Robert Griffin III and shut the rookie down. RB Jonathan Dwyer is coming off back-to-back games of 100+ yards rushing and gives the team a much needed running game.

11. (18.) Miami Dolphins (4-3)

The Miami Dolphins have been playing well all season but they played like true winners on Sunday. They took advantage of the opportunities that were presented to them early on and controlled the game thereafter. QB Matt Moore is capable of winning games if QB Ryan Tannehill is going to miss a game or two.

12. (10.) Seattle Seahawks (4-4)

The way the Seattle Seahawks lost on Sunday was untypical for the team. They finally show signs of an offense but the defense let them down. On the bright side, the Seahawks have back-to-back home games against the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets, followed by a bye week.

13. (9.) Minnesota Vikings (5-3)

Is their magic finally fading away? Minnesota played poorly in back-to-back games and got punished by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night. They need to play two more games before they get a much needed rest.

14. (20.) Detroit Lions (3-4)

As inconsistent as QB Matt Stafford is you can never count him out, especially in the fourth quarter. The Detroit Lions needed this comeback badly in order to stay in the playoff race.

15. (13.) Dallas Cowboys (3-4)

Dallas' turnovers cost the Cowboys 20 points. It's a wonder that the game against the New York Giants was this close.

16. (21.) Indianapolis Colts (4-3)

The Indianapolis Colts are quietly putting together a small streak after back-to-back wins against the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans. The Colts now have more wins this season than during QB Peyton Manning's rookie campaign in 1998.

17. (15.) Philadelphia Eagles (3-4)

The good news is the Philadelphia Eagles didn't commit a turnover against the Atlanta Falcons. The bad news is that they are on a three-game losing streak now.

18. (14.) Arizona Cardinals (4-4)

The Arizona Cardinals managed to rush for a total of 7 yards against the San Francisco 49ers. They have now lost four games in a row with trips to Green Bay and Atlanta next on the schedule.

19. (26.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-4)

Over the past three weeks the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were playing like I expected them to at the beginning of the season. This is what happens when you open up the playbook for QB Josh Freeman.

20. (17.) Washington Redskins (3-5)

The Pittsburgh Steelers found a way to contain QB Robert Griffin III and so did his own receivers. At least Pittsburgh showed some mercy and didn't embarrass the secondary much.

21. (19.) New Orleans Saints (2-5)

New Orleans' offense is still pretty good but guess whose defense is ranked 32nd in the NFL. The Saints allow 170.1 yards on the ground and 304.6 yards through the air. That's shocking.

22. (22.) Cincinnati Bengals (3-4)

A bye week after a three game losing streak can be a blessing in the sky but don't count on it with the Denver Broncos and New York Giants next.

23. (16.) San Diego Chargers (3-4)

Surely, the weather conditions in Cleveland were terrible but this is no excuse for an atrocious offense, especially as the Browns have one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

24. (23.) St. Louis Rams (3-5)

I firmly believe that a dome team gives up the home field advantage if they play in London in fall but the New England Patriots would have beaten the St. Louis Rams anywhere.

25. (25.) Buffalo Bills (3-4)

A bye week means there's nothing pessimistic to report about the Buffalo Bills. Oh wait, their next two games are at Houston and at New England. They better have their defense fixed by then.

26. (28.) Oakland Raiders (3-4)

The Oakland Raiders managed to stop the run and established a running game themselves. This was the key to defeating the Kansas City Chiefs.

27. (24.) Tennessee Titans (3-5)

The Tennessee Titans had the opportunity to claim the spot behind the Houston Texans in the AFC South but the Indianapolis Colts outplayed them in every area of the game.

28. (29.) Cleveland Browns (2-6)

I believe the weather conditions favored the Cleveland Browns as they are more blue collar than the San Diego Chargers. The Browns continue to be more competitive than their record suggests.

29. (27.) New York Jets (3-5)

If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. I'll leave it at that.

30. (31.) Carolina Panthers (1-6)

The chance was there to upset the Chicago Bears. They outgained them 416 yards – to 210 yards and possessed the ball 36:38 minutes but one interception can rob you of everything you've worked for.

31. (30.) Kansas City Chiefs (1-6)

If the Oakland Raiders outplay you then you know you have serious problems. Kansas City's futility continues as they have yet to lead in regulation.

32. (32.) Jacksonville Jaguars (1-6)

The game on Sunday was one of Jacksonville's better performances of the season, especially from QB Blaine Gabbert and WR Cecil Shorts, but injuries to Green Bay's receiver corps certainly helped the Jaguars to look competitive.
