J'Marcus Webb isn't leaving the NFC North.

Waived by the Chicago Bears on Friday, Webb, a tackle, was claimed by the Minnesota Vikings, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports on Sunday.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the move hadn't been announced.

The Vikings kept only eight offensive linemen on their initial 53-man roster on Saturday and needed a swing tackle to back up starters Matt Kalil and Phil Loadholt.

Webb, 25, started 44 games over the past three seasons with the Bears. He recently restructured the last year of his contract, reducing his base salary to the minimum $630,000.

To make room, the Vikings released offensive lineman Troy Kropog.

Patriots release Leon Washington

A person familiar with the situation says the New England Patriots have released running back-kick returner Leon Washington.

Washington, who signed with the team in the offseason, was not at practice with the team Sunday after being told he had been released, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Patriots had not yet announced the move.

It appeared Washington might have been safe after not being among the team's cuts Saturday as it set its 53-player roster.

To make room, they released two veterans, tight end Kellen Davis and running back Brandon Jackson, and waived linebacker L.J. Fort, offensive linemen Caylin Hauptmann and Jarrod Shaw and fullback Brad Smelley.

The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed seven players off waivers, turning over 13% of their roster one week before the season opener.

Players claimed were: receiver Stephen Burton from the Vikings), safety Winston Guy (Seahawks), tight end Clay Harbor (Eagles), guard Jacques McClendon (Falcons), defensive end Chris McCoy (Eagles), linebacker J.T. Thomas (Bears) and end TE D.J. Williams (Packers).

To make room, the Jaguars waived defensive back Antwon Blake, tight end Brett Brackett, center Dan Gerberry, defensive tackle Kyle Love, fullback Lonnie Pryor, receiver Jordan Shipley and linebacker Andy Studebaker.

Jets grab RB Alex Green

The New York Jets claimed running back Alex Green off waivers from the Green Bay Packers, a person with knowledge of the move told USA TODAY Sports.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the move hadn't been announced.

The Packers released Green, 25, on Saturday. He led the team in rushing last season with 464 yards on 135 carries (3.4 average) before suffering a concussion in December.

The Jets later confirmed the claim of Green and announced they've also claimed tackle Ben Ijalana (from the Indianapolis Colts) and linebacker Scott Solomon (from the Tennessee Titans).

To make room, the Jets released running back Kahlil Bell and linebacker Danny Lansanah and put linebacker Josh Mauga (back) on injured reserve.
