NFL week one round-up: Sloppy Giants fall to Cowboys as Kaepernick beats ... - Daily Star

In the shoot-out between two of the top contenders for the Super Bowl this year – the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers – Colin Kaepernick was quickest on the draw as he led the 49ers to a 34-28 win.

Quarterback Kaepernick recovered from a late hit by Packers linebacker Clay Matthews to record a career-high 412 passing yards, including three touchdowns. He said afterwards: "If intimidation is your game plan, I hope you have a better one."

San Francisco wide receiver Anquan Boldin finished with 13 catches for 208 yards and one touchdown.

Minnesota Vikings, who are playing at Wembley Stadium on September 29, fell to a 34-24 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Lions, despite star running back Adrian Peterson claiming two touchdowns. The Vikings' London opponents, the Pittsburgh Steelers, also lost – 16-9 to the Tennessee Titans.

Britain's Jack Crawford recorded a tackle but could not prevent his Oakland Raiders team going down 21-17 at Indianapolis, while the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are coming over to the capital next month to play the 49ers, were outplayed and outgunned in a 38-2 defeat by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Late field goals handed victory to the New England Patriots and the New York Jets. Stephen Gostkowski's 35-yard kick with five seconds remaining gave the Patriots a 23-21 win over Buffalo, while there was only two seconds left when Nick Folk boomed a 48-yard three-pointer to deliver an 18-17 triumph for the Jets over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

New Orleans Saints beat the Atlanta Falcons, another team with high hopes of a Super Bowl appearance this season, 23-17 thanks to quarterback Drew Brees piling up 357 yards of passing and two scores.

Miami won convincingly 23-10 at Cleveland, while two touchdowns by tight end Jared Cook saw the St Louis Rams gain a 27-24 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Chicago edged out Cincinnati 24-21 and Seattle beat Carolina 12-7.
