Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley went public Friday with his frustration over the $15,750 fine he received for what the NFL determined was an illegal crackback block in last weekend's win over the Baltimore Ravens.
"Thanks To @nfl For The Fine For Playing Football," Finley wrote on Twitter.
Finley wasn't penalized on the field for the block on Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs, who didn't see the block coming near the line of scrimmage on a toss-right run play.
But the NFL determined the block was illegal under Rule 12, Section 2, Article 7 (a) (9), which protects any player in a "defenseless posture" from such blocks.
Finley told reporters in Green Bay he plans to appeal.
The NFL confirmed earlier in the week that Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was fined $31,500 for a hit on Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden.
New Orleans Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins was fined $15,750 for unnecessary roughness ?? a hit on New England Patriots receiver Kenbrell Thompkins.
Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict, who was flagged for three 15-yard penalties in a win over the Buffalo Bills, was fined for only one of them: $7,875 for grabbing the facemask.
Dallas Cowboys safety Barry Church wasn't fined for either of the hits on Robert Griffin III that led to unnecessary roughness penalties in a win over the Washington Redskins.
Seattle Seahawks safety Richard Sherman, Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett and Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing, among others, were fined $7,875 for unnecessary roughness.
